Oguchi Onyewu's Sheffield Wednesday career is off to a flying start.
One week after making his debut for the Owls, Onyewu scored what proved to be the winning goal in his new side's 2-1 FA Cup win over Rochdale on Saturday. The win sees Wednesday advance to the fifth round of the competition.
The American defender prodded home from close range in the 57th minute, giving his team a 2-0 lead. The goal would prove to be vital, as Rochdale pulled a goal back three minutes later, but couldn't push across an equalizer.
The goal was the 31-year-old's first since December 2012 with Malaga. After failing to play during a short stint with QPR, Onyewu is looking to get his career back on track with Wednesday just in time to make a late push for Jurgen Klinsmann's World Cup side. He last played for the U.S. national team in the 2013 Gold Cup.
