Oakley World Pro Junior Championship’s Men’s Round 4 Ends: Fan View

The Oakley World Pro Junior Championship resumed on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Bali, Indonesia. The surfers were greeted with clear skies and waves in the three to five foot range. As such, Round 4 was completed. Here's a quick look at some of the early results:

    Round 4 Results

Round 4 began with a surf heat between Ezekiel Lau (HAW) and Carlos Munoz (CRI). If you ask me, both men put on a tremendous display of skill. Ezekiel Lau opened up the surf heat by posting an 8.17 point ride. He backed it up later in the matchup with a 9.10 point ride. His rides featured sweeping carves, a big cutback and ample speed. Carlos Munoz answered back by firing off a 7.33 point ride and an 8.43 point ride. In the end, Ezekiel Lau won the surf heat with 17.27 points. It was the 2nd highest surf heat score of day. Carlos Munoz completed the heat with 15.76 points. It was the 3rd highest surf heat score of the day.

Both the highest surf heat score and the highest wave score of the round was produced later in the day by surfer Jack Freestone (AUS). Freestone delivered a pristine 10 point ride during his Heat 5 matchup against Arashi Kato (JPN). It was a massive alley oop. I couldn't believe how much speed, poise and skill he displayed with that one maneuver. Jack Freestone ultimately won the surf heat with 18.17 points.

The 4th highest surf heat score of the day was earned by Andrew Doheny (USA) during his Heat 4 matchup against Keanu Asing (HAW). Doheny's best wave was an 8.90 point ride. It featured big turns and a fins free snap. He won the surf heat with 15.57 points.

Other memorable Round 4 moments were Caue Wood's (BRA) 8 point ride in Heat 3, Conner Coffin's 8.50 point ride (USA) in Heat 6 and Ramzi Boukhiam's (MAR) 8.33 point ride in Heat 8.

    What's Next?

The Oakley World Pro Junior Championship is slated to resume on Monday, October 15, 2012 with the men's quarterfinals. Heat 1 is expected to feature surfers Ezekiel Lau (HAW) and Wade Carmichael (AUS). It should prove to be an interesting surf heat. Personally, I am looking forward to watching Conner Coffin (USA) match wits with Jack Freestone (AUS) in Heat 3. Other surfers to make it into the quarterfinals are Cooper Chapman (AUS), Andrew Doheny (USA), Frederico Morais (PRT) and Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR).

Killeen Gonzalez enjoys watching water sports with her family. She also has a history of interviewing pro surfers.
