The Oakley World Pro Junior Championship resumed on Friday, October 12, 2012 in Bali, Indonesia. The waves were in the four to six foot range and the surfing was intense. The women's surfing competition came to an end in style. The men also managed to complete an entire round of surfing. Here's a quick look at some of the early results:
Women's Final Results
The women's surfing competition ended with a much anticipated matchup between Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) and Nikki Van Dijk (AUS). Both women opened up the all-important surf heat by posting low scores. Then Nikki Van Dijk seemingly roared to life. She grabbed a wave with a steep wall. Van Dijk utilized it to bury the rail on takeoff and deliver three solid turns. It garnered her 7.17 points, which set her on the course towards victory. In the waning moments of the surf heat, Van Dijk backed it up with a 6.07 point ride. She won the surf heat with 13.24 points.
Men's Round 3 Results
The men's surfing competition began with a matchup between Ezekiel Lau (HAW) and Deivid Silva (BRA). With few waves on offer, the surf heat started out very slowly. Ezekiel Lau eventually managed to grab a barrel. He utilized it to deliver a beautiful, drawn out turn and throw his surfboard vertically up into the lip. It earned him 8 points. He backed it up with a 6.50 point ride and won the surf heat with 14.50 points. Ezekiel Lau is anticipated to surf again in Round 4, Heat 1 against Carlos Munoz (CRI).
As sweet as Lau's 8 point ride was, it wasn't the best one of the round. That distinction was earned by Kalani David (HAW) during his Heat 11 matchup against Luke Davis (USA). Kalani David's best ride featured a sweet alley oop and a frontside reverse. It was extremely well executed and earned him 9.83 points. It was the highest wave score of the day and rightfully so. Kalani David is expected to surf again in Round 4, Heat 6 against Conner Coffin (USA).
Other memorable moments of Round 3 were Wade Carmichael's (AUS) incredible performance in Heat 4 and the 9 point ride delivered by Frederico Morais (PRT) in Heat 14.
The Oakley World Pro Junior Championship is scheduled to resume on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Bali. Round 4 of the men's surfing competition remains undecided. As such, surf fans may want to consider tuning in to the event's live broadcast to catch all the action.
