The Oakley World Pro Junior Championship got back underway on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in Bali, Indonesia. The waves were in the three to five foot range and the skies were clear. As such, the men were able to complete Round 2. Here's a quick look at some of the early results:
Round 2 Results
The highest surf heat score of the round was earned by Wade Carmichael (AUS) during his Heat 10 matchup against Soli Bailey (AUS). Wade Carmichael opened up the surf heat in style by posting an 8 point ride. He backed it up towards the end of the surf heat by posting an 8.67 point ride. It turned out to be the best wave score of the day. It contained a huge turn off of the top and a sublime floater. In the end, he won the surf heat with 16.67 points. Wade Carmichael is expected to surf again in Round 3, Heat 4 against Peterson Crisanto (BRA).
The 2nd highest surf heat score of the day was produced by Jack Freestone (AUS) during his Heat 2 matchup Gazali Hamzah (IDN). Freestone's best waves were an 8.33 point ride and a 7.17 point ride. His 8.33 point ride featured a great grab rail cutback and a powerful turn. Jack Freestone won the surf heat with 15.50 points and is anticipated to surf against Geovane Ferreira (BRA) in Round 3, Heat 9.
The 3rd highest surf heat score of the round was scooped up by Deivid Silva (BRA) during his Heat 12 matchup against Taylor Clark (USA). If you ask me, the surf heat got off to a slow start. The action eventually picked up though. Deivid Silva's best waves were an 8.17 point ride and a 7.17 point ride. His 8.17 point ride featured superb timing, strong bottom turns and a lip smash. He won the surf heat with 15.34 points. Silva is slated to surf against Ezekiel Lau (HAW) in Round 3, Heat 1.
Other memorable Round 2 moments were Andrew Doheny's (USA) 8.50 point ride in Heat 6 and Jocelyn Poulou's (PYF) 7.83 point ride in Heat 9. Andrew Doheny's ride featured big turns, a tail drift and an aerial attempt. I thought that Poulou's ride featured well-executed turns too.
