Oakland Raiders NFL Mock Drafts: January 23 Edition

Yahoo Contributor Network
COMMENTARY | The Super Bowl is less than two weeks away, and the official start of free agency begins March 11.

After that comes the NFL draft, the bread and butter of the offseason.

The Oakland Raiders have several needs to address when May rolls around, so let's see what experts think they should do with the No. 5 pick in the draft.

WalterFootball.com- Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

Even though the Raiders still aren't sure who their franchise quarterback is, that doesn't mean they have to draft one at No. 5.

Sammy Watkins is a big-play guy who has the ability to change the dynamic of any game when he gets the ball in his hands.

The Raiders haven't had a 1,000-yard receiver since Randy Moss in 2005.

They need a guy like Watkins.

CBSSports.com (Rob Rang)- Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

I must have missed the memo where Teddy Bridgewater fell all the way to No. 5. I really hope it wasn't because of Mel Kiper who had Johnny Manziel going No. 1 to the Houston Texans.

You know, that same Mel Kiper who said Jimmy Clausen would be a stud in the NFL.

Barring any serious injury or setback during his combine, I'd be extremely surprised if Bridgewater fell to Oakland.

The Raiders don't need to address the quarterback position in the first round, but if Bridgewater is by some chance still available, I say take him.

He's the only quarterback worthy of a top-5 pick.

NFL.com- Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

NFL.com is the latest website to think that Johnny Football would look in silver and black.

Personally, I don't see it. No doubt the kid is talented, but it's going to be difficult for his game to translate to the NFL.

In college, he made incredible plays with his feet. That's not going to happen in the pros.

Manziel also had the luxury of having a consistent No. 1 receiver in Mike Evans to bail him out. As it stands, the Raiders are without a true No. 1 receiver.

While Manziel may be exciting to watch, he remains too risky of a pick for the Raiders at No. 5.

My pick- Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

What's not to like about Sammy Watkins? He's a fast, exciting receiver who can take the game over at any time.

As I previously said, the Raiders are in desperate need of a true No. 1 receiver. While Rod Streater, Denarius Moore and Andre Holmes showed promise at times, none of them capitalized on the opportunity to take over the top spot.

Watkins would be an instant upgrade to any team that needs help at the wide receiver position, and the Raiders are one of those teams.
