MLB trade deadline:

Nuggets' Hickson undergoes knee surgery

The SportsXchange

Denver Nuggets forward JJ Hickson had season-ending surgery on Tuesday morning to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Team physician Steve Traina performed the procedure at Midtown Surgical Center.

"JJ is an extremely tough player who made an impact for us all season," said Tim Connelly, Nuggets general manager and executive vice president of basketball operations. "We know he will attack his rehab with the same energy and hard work that he displays on the court every night."

Hickson was injured in the fourth quarter of Friday night's 122-106 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

A free-agent signee by the Nuggets last July, Hickson averaged 11.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in 69 games, including 52 starts, and had a team-leading 26 double-doubles.
