Notre Dame to host three ACC teams in '14

The SportsXchange

Notre Dame's 2014 football schedule will include three home games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.

The Fighting Irish athletic teams start play in the ACC in the 2014-15 season in all sports except football. But Notre Dame will take on five ACC teams annually as part of its new affiliation with the conference.

Home football games in 2014 will be against Louisville, North Carolina and Wake Forest. The Irish will travel to Florida State and will face Syracuse in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., according to ESPN.com

"The football partnership between the ACC and Notre Dame will not only enhance our league's already ambitious football schedules but also will provide terrific fan excitement," ACC commissioner John Swofford said in a statement. "One of the benefits, moving forward, is that almost all of our student-athletes will have an opportunity to play against Notre Dame during their ACC careers, which is extremely special."

Notre Dame and Louisville will meet for the first time in football. The Fighting Irish are 16-2 all time against North Carolina, 2-0 against Wake Forest, 5-2 against Florida State and 3-3 against Syracuse.

The scheduling agreement gives each ACC team an opportunity to play Notre Dame once every three years and play host to the Irish every six.

Future opponents include Boston College and Georgia Tech at home and Clemson, Pittsburgh and Virginia on the road in 2015. In 2016, Duke, Miami and Virginia Tech will come to South Bend and the Irish will visit North Carolina State and Syracuse.
