BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -- DeQuan Hicks scored 19 points and Northwestern State hung on after losing a big second-half lead to defeat Campbell 71-67 in a nonconference game Monday night.

The Demons (2-0) led by 21 points, 50-29, with 15:05 remaining before the Camels (1-1) began to chip away.

Trey Freeman and Darren White each scored 11 second-half points for Campbell, which shot 51.4 percent (18 of 35) in the second half after making just 30.4 percent (7 of 23) in the first.

Layups by Marvin Frazier and Shamir Davis and two free throws by O.J. Evans built the Demons' edge to 69-58 with 1:11 left, but Northwestern State missed 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch, allowing Campbell to cut into the lead.

Hicks also grabbed 10 rebounds for Northwestern State.

White and Darian Hooker scored 15 points apiece for Campbell, and Freeman scored 13.
