Northern Pennsylvania’s Snowmobiling Spots: Where to Hit the Trails

Outdoor enthusiasts planning a winter vacation in Northern Pennsylvania may want to consider bringing their snowmobiles along with them. Based on my experience, the region is home to many wonderful trails. In most instances, the trails are free to access. Visitors will, however, have to register their snowmobiles. The state also offers a snowmobile hotline where visitors may access trail reports. With that said, here's a quick look at few great spots to visit:

    Tiadaghton State Forest

Tiadaghton State Forest is partially located in Lycoming County. It features more than 285 miles of snowmobiling trails. The forest's trails are accessible from Little Pine State Park. Restrooms and picnic areas are located within the park. Riders in need of additional winter sports gear will find it nearby at Lyon Camping and Supply as well as McConnell's Country Store and Dick's Sporting Goods.

    Susquehannock State Forest

Susquehannock State Forest is partially located in McKean County. It features more than 250 miles of snowmobiling trails. The forest's groomed trails are accessible from Ole Bull State Park and Lyman Run State Park. Restrooms and picnic areas are located at both parks. The Ole Bull State Park also features year round accommodations and picnic pavilions that are outfitted with fireplaces. For those visitors that don't have their own sleds, Slaven's Snowmobile Rental is located in Bradford.

    Moshannon State Forest

Moshannon State Forest is partially located in Clearfield County. It features more than 205 miles of snowmobiling trails. The forest's groomed trails are accessible from Simon B. Elliott State Park, Parker Dam State Park and Black Moshannon State Park. Restrooms are available at both Simon B. Elliot State Park and Parker Dam State Park. The Parker Dam State Park also features year round lodging opportunities.

    Tioga State Forest

Tioga State Forest is partially located in Tioga County. It features more than 175 miles of snowmobiling trails. The forest's trails are accessible from Colton Point State Park. Restrooms and picnic tables are located within the confines of the park. Visitors looking for additional information about the area's trails may want to contact the PA Grand Canyon Snowmobile Club. They maintain a clubhouse west of Wellsboro.

    Elk State Forest

Elk County's Elk State Forest features more than 95 miles of snowmobiling trails and elk watching opportunities. The forest's trails are considered part of the PA Wilds Snowmobile Trail System. They are also accessible from the Sinnemahoning State Park and the Sizerville State Park. Restrooms and picnic tables are available at Sizerville State Park.
