Northeastern 68, William & Mary 64

Sophomore forward Reggie Spencer hit the go-ahead basket with 1:33 remaining, and visiting Northeastern held on to beat William & Mary 68-64 Monday at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va.

The Huskies (17-8, 12-1 Colonial Athletic Association) won their fourth in a row, increasing their lead over second-place Towson. Senior guard Joel Smith led three players who scored in double figures for Northeastern, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Senior guard Jonathan Lee and sophomore swingman Quincy Ford scored 12 points apiece.

Junior guard Brandon Britt scored 18 points for William & Mary (9-14, 3-9), which has lost two in a row and three of four since upsetting Towson on Jan. 26.

Junior forward Tim Rusthoven had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Tribe. Sophomore guard Marcus Thornton scored 13 points, and junior forward Kyle Gaillard added 10.

William & Mary led 62-56 after Fred Heldring made two free throws with 5:21 remaining, but Northeastern seized control with a 12-0 run.

The Huskies shot 52.2 percent from the field and made 12 of 21 attempts from 3-point range. The Tribe shot 48 percent from the field and made seven of 19 from beyond the arc.
