Norfolk State center Bradon Goode took over the game late to prevent his team from suffering its second collapse in as many nights Tuesday as the Spartans knocked off the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 80-78 in the NIT Season Tip-Off at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Spartans (3-2), who blew a 17-point second half lead in Monday's loss to East Carolina, led 67-60 at the 7:55 mark when the Bulldogs started to slowly cut into the lead. Goode scored Norfolk State's next 12 points to keep UNC Asheville at bay. Goode's 22 points led all scorers. Guard Malcolm Hawkins added 16 points, and forward Anell Alexis added 13. The Spartans helped themselves by going 7-for-16 from three-point range and committing just four turnovers, but nearly blew the game on the glass. UNC Asheville (1-4) out-rebounded Norfolk State 41-22 and had 21 offensive boards. Five Bulldogs finished in double figures, led by forward Sam Hughes' 16 points. Center Jaleel Roberts just missed a double-double off the bench with nine points and nine rebounds.
