No deal with Rams for Long; Dolphins still interested
Free-agent offensive tackle Jake Long wrapped up his visit with the St. Louis Rams without a deal and has multiple teams interested, including Miami, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday.
The Dolphins so far have been unable to reach an agreement with their former No. 1 overall pick. Long is reported to be demanding $11 million per year, or a contract similar to the seven-year, $84 million deal that Joe Thomas received from the Cleveland Browns. But there are indications that he's willing to come down from that figure.
Miami is reluctant to pay top dollar to keep Long, considering his declinining performance and injury concerns. But Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland reached out to Long on Friday morning, according to USA Today, with room remaining under the salary cup despite a flurry of signings this week.
A triceps injury, which Long suffered in early December in a game against New England, limited the four-time Pro Bowler to 12 games last season.
