Considering how depleted the Niners' receiving ranks have become, the abrupt release of former Pro Bowler Braylon Edwards has raised more than a few eyebrows. "One big problem, I think, is that there was a real disconnect as to just how badly he was injured," one team insider said of Edwards, a relative nonfactor due to a knee injury suffered in Week Two and a shoulder injury suffered in Week Nine. "When he told the media (in November) that he needed to rest his shoulder and knee, before mentioning it to (head coach Jim) Harbaugh, I think that more than infuriated Harbaugh. But Braylon couldn't run or cut at all and really did look awful. It's interesting because he was considered a pretty tough guy who had played through injuries before." As for the undermanned WR corps, word is the Niners are looking into veteran reinforcements, with former Falcon Brian Finneran at the top of the list.
