Nikola Pekovic registered his 20th double-double this season, scoring 27 points and registering 14 rebounds, to help the Minnesota Timberwolves pummel the Utah Jazz, 98-72. This snaps a three-game losing streak for Minnesota (19-21).
Pekovic shot 12-17, in a good performance. Kevin Love chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota as well. Despite the loss, Alec Burks put up 18 points for Utah on 4-10 shooting from the field and 9-12 from the free throw line.
In a matchup between elite defenses, Minnesota reigned supreme. They rank third in the NBA in defensive efficiency this season (109.06), and held Utah to just .73 points per possession. In addition to 28.0% from 3-point range, the Jazz tallied an eFG% of just 33.6%. They are winless (0-8) on the season when registering marks below 30% and 45%, respectively, in those statistics. The Timberwolves, conversely, are undefeated (3-0) when holding the opposition to such dismal shooting numbers.
Utah (14-28) couldn't get consecutive victories after beating Detroit on Friday.
Next up on Tuesday, the Jazz get an opportunity for redemption against Timberwolves.
