Nicolas Batum scored 20 points and recorded 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the season, to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a close victory over the New York Knicks, 94-90. Portland (35-14) picked up the win after falling to the Washington Wizards on Monday.
Batum finished 9-14 (2-5 from three-point range) in a quality performance offensively. Other top contributors for Portland included Wesley Matthews with 18 points and 7 rebounds, and LaMarcus Aldridge with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony had another strong game for New York despite the loss, scoring 26 points on 11-28 shooting, including 1-6 from behind the arc. He also tallied 8 rebounds. J.R. Smith added 18 points and 6 assists and Amare Stoudemire finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
In addition to 19.0% from 3-point range, the Knicks tallied an eFG% of just 42.2%. They are 1-7 on the season when registering marks below 30% and 45%, respectively, in those statistics. The Trail Blazers, conversely, are undefeated (3-0) when holding the opposition to such dismal shooting numbers.
New York (19-30) has now dropped their last three consecutive games.
