Niagara weathered a late rally to beat Loyola 62-61 and hand the Greyhounds their first home loss of the season Wednesday night. The Purple Eagles (3-5) have a six-game winning streak against Loyola in the Greyhounds' Reitz Arena. Loyola is 3-1 at home and 7-3 overall. Loyola looked like it would take control in the first half with a 25-17 lead with 7:50 remaining. Niagara, however, went on a 17-2 run over the end of the first half and the start of the second. The Purple Eagles never trailed in the second half but they almost blew a 58-50 lead with 2:08 left. The Greyhounds scored seven consecutive points in only six seconds to cut the lead to 58-57 with 2:02 remaining. Tyler Hubbard was fouled attempting a three-pointer with 2:08 left and made all three free-throw attempts to cut the lead to 58-53. Niagara committed a turnover on the in-bounds pass and the Purple Eagles' Antoine Mason fouled Franz Rassman with 2:07 showing on the clock. After Rassman made one of two free-throw attempts, he stole the ball on the inbounds and made a layup while being fouled. His free throw cut the lead to 58-57 with 2:02 left. Hubbard made one of two free throws with 1:41 following another Niagara turnover and the game was tied at 58. Juan'ya Green, who led Niagara with 19 points, made two free throws and a jumper to increase the lead to 62-58 with six seconds left. Loyola's Anthony Winbush made a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap the scoring. Dylon Cormier led Loyala with 17 points.
