NHL Roundup: Red Wings extend Datsyuk's contract
Detroit Red Wings star center Pavel Datsyuk has agreed to a three-year contract extension.
The deal will keep the 34-year-old in Detroit through the 2016-17 season. He can't sign officially sign until July 5 because he was entering the final year of his current deal.
General manager Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press the deal is for $22.5 million, with an annual salary cap hit of $7.5 million.
He led Detroit with 15 goals and 49 points in the lockout-shortened, 48-game season. He helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in 2002 and 2008. He said he wanted to remain with the Red Wings instead of returning to Russia after the 2013-14 season.
---Nashville Predators forward Kevin Henderson signed a two-year, two-way contract on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old will earn $550,000 at the NHL level, and $75,000 at the AHL level in 2013-14, and $550,000/$80,000, respectively, in 2014-15.
Henderson appeared in Nashville's final four regular-season games this season, and scored a goal in his NHL debut April 19, 2013 at Chicago.
---Marian Hossa, a surprise scratch before Monday's Stanley Cup Final game Monday, is likely to be back in the lineup for the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday in Boston.
"I'm not going to get exactly what the injury is or where it occurred but I'm going to say he's likely to play tomorrow night," said Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville of Hossa's "upper-body injury."
In the Game 3 loss Monday, forward Ben Smith filled Hossa's shifts. He played 10 minutes after having played only one game all season. Hossa has seven goals, eight assists in the postseason and brings a presence the Boston Bruins' defense must mind to the ice.
---The Los Angeles Kings reached an agreement with restricted free-agent defenseman Slava Voynov on a new contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal is for six years and $25 million, according to multiple reports,
Voynov, a 23-year-old Russian, tied for the team lead in goals during the playoffs with six, including four game-winners, and in points with 13. During the regular season, he had six goals and 19 assists in 48 games to leads Kings defensemen.
