NHL roundup: Poile will not travel to Sochi

The SportsXchange

Nashville Predators general manager David Poile, the architect of the American Olympic team, will not travel to Sochi to see the U.S. team compete for a medal because of facial injuries suffered last week.

Poile had surgery after taking a puck to the face during a morning skate last Thursday. At that time he said he would not travel to Sochi with Team USA as planned but hoped to join the team later in the week. Now that will not happen either.

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero, who worked with Poile in selecting the American team, will serve as Team USA's general manger in Sochi in Poile's absence.

--- Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen and Boston Bruins right wing Jarome Iginla were named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week.

---Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will captain Finland's team at the Sochi Olympics.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen and former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov will serve as alternate captains.
