Fantasy Pickups of the Week:

NHL roundup: Penguins' Neal out

The SportsXchange

Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal is being listed as week-to-week after suffering an upper-body injury that makes it uncertain when he will return, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

He left Thursday's game with what was then described as precautionary reasons.

But now he is sidelined, and, according to the Post-Gazette report, coach Dan Bylsma could not offer a timetable on his possible return.

The Penguins are loaded with scoring talent, but Neal, 26, was one of their biggest threats. He had 21 goals and 15 assists in 40 games last season and had 40 goals and 41 assists in 80 games in 2011-2012 for the Penguins.

---Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Fraser is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a knee injury, Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said.

Fraser was injured on Wednesday when he was hit by the Philadelphia Flyers' Jay Rosehill in the third period. It came after Fraser had been called for a minor penalty for high-sticking the Flyers' Zac Rinaldo.

---Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will make his season debut Monday when the Oilers host the New Jersey Devils, the Oilers announced on Friday.

Nugent-Hopkins had surgery on his left shoulder April 23, and general manager Craig MacTavish said last month the worst-case scenario for Nugent-Hopkins' return was Nov. 1.

He has recovered more quickly than expected, however.

---Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley, who was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat last month, is scheduled to make his season debut on Saturday against the Washington Capitals, according to the Dallas Morning News.

---The San Jose Sharks have recalled forward John McCarthy from AHL Worcester and assigned forward Matt Pelech to their farm team.
