NHL roundup: League, players to resume talks
The NHL and NHLPA will resume negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement Thursday and Friday in New York, the SportsBusiness Journal reported Tuesday.
It will be the second formal bargaining session between the league and its players as the current CBA runs out on Sept. 15.
Eight players on the NHLPA's 31-player negotiating committee, Commissioner Gary Bettman and four team owners attended the first meeting June 29. The league made a presentation. Players union executive director Donald Fehr said the players would review the NHL's presentation before the second meeting.
Scott Hartnell of the Philadelphia Flyers, Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders and George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks were among the players in attendance at the first meeting.
No specifics of the talks were revealed by either side.
---The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenseman Bryce Salvador to a three-year contract worth $9.5 million, according to TSN.
Salvador, 36, missed the entire 2010-2011 season with a concussion, but played in all 82 regular-season games this past season.
Although Salvador had no goals and nine assists during the regular season, he played a major role in New Jersey's run to the Stanley Cup Final, collecting four goals and 10 assists in the postseason.
---The Colorado Avalanche re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Erik Johnson to a four-year contract that is worth $15 million, according to the NHL Network.
Johnson, 24, had four goals and 22 assists in 73 games for the Avalanche last season.
Johnson sat out the entire 2008-09 season with the St. Louis Blues after tearing his ACL in a golf cart accident during the offseason. But he has played in at least 73 games each of the past three seasons.
