NHL roundup: Bruins' Horton to play in Game 2

The SportsXchange

Injured Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton will play Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Horton, the second-leading scorer in the playoffs, has been playing with a chronic shoulder injury. He left Wednesday's series opener after he bumped into Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.

After Saturday's morning skate, Horton told reporters that he felt fine.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said that Horton will play.

"He feels really good," Julien said. "He looked really good out there the last two days. I see no reason why he shouldn't play tonight."

Horton reportedly sustained a separated shoulder during the regular season while he fought against the Pittsburgh Penguins' Jarome Iginla.

---The New York Rangers hired Alain Vigneault as their new head coach, ESPNNewYork.com reported Saturday.

Vigneault was also a candidate for the Dallas Stars job, but removed his name from consideration before taking the Rangers job.

Vigneault was fired by the Vancouver Canucks after getting eliminated from the Western Conference playoffs by the San Jose Sharks.

---Latvian news agencies on Saturday confirmed that a body recovered from the Daugava River late Friday was Edmonton Oilers prospect Kristians Pelss.

Pelss, 20, went missing earlier in the week. Police received reports that a man jumped off a bridge around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and authorities believed that man was Pelss.

He played his junior hockey for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League and made his pro hockey debut this past season, splitting time with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL and Edmonton's AHL team in Oklahoma City.
