NHL roundup: Blackhawks' Mayers fined
Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers hasn't played at all in the postseason, but he still managed to get fined by the league.
Mayers was fined a half day's pay - about $1,600 - for shooting pucks into the Detroit Red Wings goal during warm-ups prior to Game 5 on Saturday, TSN reported.
Mayers shot about five pucks into Jimmy Howard's net from Chicago's side of center.
"I was trying to get under their skin," Mayers told ESPN. "The league fined me and took the appropriate action. I'll pay the piper."
Chicago won the game 4-1 but still trails in the series 3-2.
---Jason Spezza of the Ottawa Senators will have arthroscopic knee surgery soon to repair a torn meniscus and should be healed in 2-3 weeks, according to Sportsnet.
Spezza appeared in three playoff games versus the Penguins, getting one assist.
----NHL officials and the latest prospective Phoenix Coyotes ownership group will have a meeting Tuesday with Glendale, Ariz., city councilors to discuss what needs to be accomplished to get the team sold and have a lease at Jobing.com Arena, ProHockeyTalk.com reported.
---Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference, who hasn't played since Game 5 of the Toronto series, is showing signs of improvement. He skated with Bruins strength and conditioning coach John Whitesides Monday.
"He's obviously on the mend," Boston head coach Claude Julien told NHL.com. "But not ready to say he's ready to go yet."
