NHL roundup: Blackhawks celebrate with Chcago parade

The SportsXchange

The Chicago Blackhawks celebrated their Stanley Cup victory by being showered with confetti by thousands of fans in a parade through downtown Chicago on Friday.

Open buses carried the players through the cheering crowd of the procession that ended at Grant Park along Lake Michigan.

The most memorable part of the celebration may have come when several players addressed the huge crowd at Grant Park. That was when goalie Corey Crawford let fly with a few obscenities in his speech.

Also Friday, the Blackhawks took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe, thanking the Boston Bruins for their hospitality. They also made mention of city's spirit in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings in April.

--- Nashville Predators general manager David Poile was named general manager of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, USA Hockey announced.

Poile was the associate general manager for the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. men's team in Vancouver. He was a member of the U.S. National Team Advisory Group for the 2012 and '13 World Championships team. In 2012, the team won bronze, its first medal since '04.

--- The Ottawa Senators announced that captain Daniel Alfredsson has said he wants to return to the team for an 18th season.

Alfredsson, 40, just completed the final year of a four-year deal. He had 10 goals and 16 assists in 47 games this past season.

--- The New York Rangers announced that center Brad Richards will remain with the team for next season.

There were reports the Rangers might use their final compliance buyout to terminate the final seven seasons of Richards' contract, which runs through the 2019-20 season.

Richards had 34 points in 46 regular-season games but had only one goal in 10 playoff games.
