NHL roundup: Abdelkader suspended two games

Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader was suspended for two games by the NFL on Sunday for charging Anaheim Ducks defenseman Toni Lydman during Game 3 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series in Detroit on Saturday.

The incident occurred at 15:11 of the second period. Abdelkader was assessed a major penalty for charging and a game misconduct.

---Goaltender Cory Schneider was scheduled to return to the starting lineup for the Vancouver Canucks for Sunday's Game 3 against the San Jose Sharks.

Schneider missed Games 1 and 2 of the Canucks' first-round playoff series with the Sharks because of an undisclosed injury.

Veteran Roberto Luongo had replaced Scnneider in goal for the first two games.

---Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf will not be punished by the league for his hit on Boston Bruins forward Daniel Paille on Saturday.

Phaneuf didn't receive a penalty as a result of the incident and he won't be fined or suspended either, according to Sportsnet's John Shannon.

---Montreal Canadiens forwards Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta were scheduled to play Sunday against Ottawa after missing Game 2 with injuries.
