March 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice announced Tuesday that veteran blueliner Toby Enstrom is scheduled for knee surgery and is out indefinitely. Enstrom, a top-four defenseman with the NHL club since it moved north from Atlanta in time for the 2011-12 season, scored a pair of goals and chipped in 14 assists this season. Enstrom has been bothered by the knee injury since November, Maurice told reporters. The news comes a day after the Jets announced center Mathieu Perreault is out indefinitely with a concussion. Winnipeg recalled defenseman Julian Melchiori on an emergency basis. Melchiori, 24, has played 62 games for the Manitoba Moose this season recording seven points (three goals and four assists) and 46 penalty minutes. He has played two NHL games, including one this season against Vancouver. -- The Boston Bruins recalled forward Frank Vatrano from Providence. The Bruins also recalled goaltender Jeremy Smith from Providence on an emergency basis. Vatrano is the AHL's leading goal scorer, with 33 tallies in 33 games. He has appeared in 30 games with the Bruins in 2015-16, recording six goals and one assist for seven points with 10 penalty minutes. Smith has played in 11 games in 2015-16 with Providence, compiling a 7-3-1 record and 2.07 goals-against average. -- The Minnesota Wild reassigned goaltender Steve Michalek to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League, the club announced. Michalek was recalled under emergency conditions on Friday and has not appeared in a game for Minnesota. He is 6-3-0 with a 2.46 goals-against average in nine games with Iowa. -- The Los Angeles Kings recalled forward Nic Dowd from the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the team announced. Dowd, 25, has 47 points (13 goals, 34 assists) in 57 games for Ontario. He has 91 points (22 goals, 69 assists) in 139 career AHL contests. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
