April 5 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Tuesday's National Hockey League games Islanders 4, Capitals 3 (overtime) Thomas Hickey scored with 2:47 left in overtime, Christopher Gibson made 29 saves in his first NHL start and the New York Islanders clinched a playoff berth with a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night. New York rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to force overtime. Alex Ovechkin scored twice for Washington, which has lost three of its last four games, and T.J. Oshie added a goal and two assists. Jets 2, Ducks 1 (overtime) Blake Wheeler scored his 24th goal in overtime as the Winnipeg Jets rallied for a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night in front of 16,743 at the Honda Center. Marko Dano added his fifth goal and goalie Michael Hutchinson stopped 27 shots for the Jets (33-39-8), who earned their second consecutive victory. Penguins 5, Senators 3 Two third-period goals by Carl Hagelin helped Pittsburgh erase an early 3-0 deficit en route to a victory over Ottawa at Canadian Tire Centre. Sidney Crosby also scored twice for the Penguins, the second into an empty net with 6.3 seconds left, and Patric Hornqvist had the other. Erik Karlsson, Mike Hoffman and Zack Smith had the Senators goals. Rangers 3, Lightning 2 Derek Stepan scored twice and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 39 shots as New York overcame a horrendous start to defeat Tampa Bay at Madison Square Garden. Chris Kreider scored on a breakaway 4:46 into the third period for the Rangers' winner. Andrej Sustr and Brian Boyle scored for the Lightning, who received 25 saves from Andrei Vasilevskiy. Panthers 4, Canadiens 1 Jaromir Jagr picked up a pair of assists to help Florida to a win against Montreal at the Bell Centre. Roberto Luongo made 32 saves for the Panthers while Mike Condon stopped 15 shots for the Canadiens. Aleksander Barkov, Nick Bjugstad, Greg McKegg and Jiri Hudler scored for the Panthers, and Alex Galchenyuk scored the only goal for Montreal. Hurricanes 2, Bruins 1 (shootout) Noah Hanifin beat Tuukka Rask with the only goal of a five-round shootout to give Carolina a win over Boston, which is in danger of missing the playoffs. With the point, the Bruins pulled into a tie with the idle Detroit Red Wings for third place in the Atlantic Division, but the Red Wings, who visit Boston on Thursday night, have a game in hand. Sharks 3, Wild 0 Two goals by Patrick Marleau and another by Logan Couture, along with a strong start in the net by James Reimer, sparked a San Jose win over Minnesota. Filip Forsberg, Colin Wilson, Craig Smith and Mike Fisher scored for the Predators Blackhawks 6, Coyotes 2 Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists and rookie Artemi Panarin continued his torrid points pace with three assists as Chicago beat Arizona at the United Center. Patrick Kane, Andrew Ladd, Trevor Van Riemsdyk, Andrew Desjardins and Richard Panik scored for the Blackhawks. Sabres 3, Devils 1 Chad Johnson made 18 saves to lead Buffalo over New Jersey at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Ryan O'Reilly, Johan Larsson and Jack Eichel scored for the Sabres, who have won three straight, and have two games remaining this season. Cory Schneider made 15 saves and Jacob Josefson scored the Devils' lone goal. Kings 5, Flames 4 (overtime) Jeff Carter scored on a breakaway 40 seconds into overtime to lift Los Angeles over Calgary, snapping a five-game road losing streak. Milan Lucic scored twice and Andy Andreoff and Kris Versteeg added a goals for the Kings. Deryk Engelland, Mickael Backlund, Hunter Shinkaruk and Mark Giordano also had goals for the Flames.
