Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer scored for Carolina, who improved to 3-0-1 on their homestand. Paul Stastny scored in the second period for the Avalanche, who lost for the first time on the road (6-1-0) and fell to 14-3-0 on the season. - - - Panthers 3, Ducks 2 Brad Boyes scored the tiebreaking goal at 4:29 in the third period and the Florida Panthers ended their nine-game losing streak with a win over the red-hot Anaheim Ducks. The Sharks (11-2-5) had dropped their previous five games and appeared headed in that direction yet again after losing a 2-0 lead in the third. - - - Sabres 3, Kings 2 (shootout) Goaltender Ryan Miller made 43 saves and stopped both Los Angeles attempts in the shootout to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a victory over the Kings.
