Fabbri, the Blues' first pick in the 2014 draft, converted a behind-the-back pass from center Jori Lehtera at 9:29 of the period to break a 1-1 tie. He is the first Blues player to score a goal in his NHL debut since right winger Vladimir Tarasenko, who had earlier scored the Blues' first goal. Troy Brouwer added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds for St. Louis. - - Stars 3, Penguins 0 Ales Hemsky had a goal and an assist and Antti Niemi stopped all 37 shots he faced as Dallas defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 in the season opener for both teams. Rookie Mattias Janmark and captain Jamie Benn also scored for Dallas. - - Wild 5, Avalanche 4 Zach Parise scored three goals, two of them in a furious third-period comeback, as the Minnesota Wild rallied for a 5-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Wild. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk had 19 saves. The Avalanche led 4-1 after the second period on goals from Jarome Iginla, Gabriel Landeskog, John Mitchell and Erik Johnson before Minnesota erased that deficit in a span of five minutes, seven seconds in the third. Parise got the first goal, Niederreiter made it 4-3 just 1:58 later, and Vanek tied it with a shot that went past goalie Semyon Varlamov and rattled off both posts before Parise completed his hat-trick on a power play. - - - - (Compiled by Greg Stutchbury)
