Dec 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League games. - - - Kings 5, Senators 2 The Los Angeles Kings extended their winning streak to six games by defeating the Ottawa Senators 5-2 at Canadian Tire Centre. Center Anze Kopitar led the way with two goals, while center Jarret Stoll and wingers Dwight King and Jeff Carter rounded out the Los Angeles scoring. Defensemen Joe Corvo and Erik Karlsson replied for Ottawa. Rookie goalie Martin Jones improved his record to 5-0-0 by stopping 37 shots. - - - Flames 2, Sabres 1 (Overtime) Center Matt Stajan scored 42 seconds into overtime to lead the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Stajan beat Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth with a wrist shot from inside the left circle in the extra session. Center Paul Byron also scored for the Flames (13-15-4) and assisted on Stajan's game-winner. Goalie Karri Ramo had 26 saves. Left winger Matt Moulson scored for the Sabres (7-23-3), and Enroth had 24 saves. - - - Stars 6, Jets 4 What was supposed to be tight-checking Western division affair between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets turned positively wild in the second period when five goals were scored in only 351 seconds. The Stars scored three of those goals en route to a 6-4 victory over the Jets, who lost their sixth consecutive game at home. The victory improved the Stars' record to 15-11-5, while the Jets fell to 14-15-5. - - - Devils 3, Lightning 0 Goaltender Martin Brodeur made 33 saves and left wing Dainius Zubrus scored twice as the New Jersey Devils earned a 3-0 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brodeur extended his NHL record by recording his 124th shutout. He had allowed 15 goals on 86 shots over his previous 14 games. Right wing Damien Brunner also scored for the Devils while the Lightning have lost five of their past seven games. - - - Penguins 4, Red Wings 1 Center and NHL points leader Sidney Crosby scored twice, center Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. But Malkin, who got his 600th career point earlier in the game, was helped off the ice early in the third period after going into the end boards backward as he thwarted a scoring chance by Detroit center Luke Glendening. Defenseman Olli Maata also scored for Pittsburgh and Jussi Jokinen had two assists. - - - Blues 4, Blue Jackets 3 (Overtime) Right winger David Backes scored 22 seconds into overtime, leading the St. Louis Blues to a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Right winger Vladimir Tarasenko had two goals for the Blues, and right winger Cam Stewart also scored. The Blues trailed 3-1 after the first period, but Stewart's goal with 6:27 remaining in the third period forced overtime. Tyutin, center Artem Anisimov and center Ryan Johansen scored for the Blue Jackets. - - - Maple Leafs 7, Blackhawks 3 Center Peter Holland and left winger Joffrey Lupul each scored two goals and the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Right wingers Jerry D'Amigo and Phil Kessel and left winger Nikolai Kulemin also scored for the Maple Leafs (17-14-3). Left winger Mason Raymond added four assists and Lupul had two assists. Right winger Patrick Kane scored two goals and left winger Brandon Saad added one for the Blackhawks (23-7-5). - - - Canadiens 1, Islanders 0 (overtime) Left wing Max Pacioretty's goal 1:51 into overtime snapped a scoreless tie and lifted the Montreal Canadiens past the New York Islanders 1-0. The Canadiens (20-11-3) snapped a two-game losing streak. The Islanders (9-19-6) have lost 12 of their last 13 (1-10-2) and are 3-14-3 in their last 20 games, a stretch that included a 10-game road losing streak, the longest road drought for the Islanders since the franchise's inaugural season in 1972-73. Canadiens goalie Carey Price had 21 saves in the shutout. - - - Predators 3, Sharks 2 The Nashville Predators finished off a perfect week as Eric Nystrom, defenseman Roman Josi and Viktor Stalberg scored goals to support a 36-save performance from resurgent goaltender Carter Hutton in a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. It was the third straight win for Nashville (16-14-3), who entered the week on a five-game losing streak. San Jose (20-7-6) started a three-game road trip with their fifth loss in six matches and fourth consecutive defeat on the road. - - - Hurricanes 3, Coyotes 1 Carolina winger Jeff Skinner scored his 12th goal of the season early in the third period and center Eric Staal scored an empty-net goal and added two assists in the Hurricanes' 3-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. Skinner, who has eight goals in his last seven games, picked up a loose puck after a faceoff to the right of Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith and flipped a wrist shot home to make it 2-1 exactly three minutes into the third period. Goaltender Justin Peters frustrated the Coyotes (18-9-5) the rest of the way and finished with 37 saves for Carolina (14-13-7), who have 10 points in its last seven games. - - - Wild 2, Avalanche 1 (shootout) Goaltender Josh Harding made 26 saves in regulation and overtime and three more in a shootout as the Minnesota Wild edged the Colorado Avalanche 2-1. Nino Niederreiter scored in regulation while Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise scored in the shootout for the Wild, who beat Colorado for the first time in three tries this season. Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves and center Maxime Talbot scored in regulation for the Avalanche. - - - Canucks 6, Bruins 2 Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler got the crowd and his team mates into the game when he dropped the gloves with Boston Bruins right winger Jarome Iginla 6:24 into the first period. It set the tone for a hard-fought 6-2 Canucks win over the Bruins. Kesler was at his impish best, whacking and chirping at Boston defenseman and captain Zdeno Chara, getting involved with his rival pest left winger Brad Marchand of the Bruins and getting under the skin of Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask.
