The Pittsburgh Steelers signed coach Mike Tomlin to a contract extension through the 2016 season. The Steelers made the announcement in a news release Tuesday. "We are pleased to announce that Mike Tomlin will remain with the Steelers for at least five more years," said Steelers president and co-owner Art Rooney II. Tomlin had two years left on his contract and signed a three-year extension Tuesday. He reportedly earned $2.5 million per season on his initial deal with the Steelers and signed a three-year extension in July 2010. --Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick Justin Blackmon avoided jail time by reaching a plea agreement in his aggravated DUI case in Stillwater, Okla. Blackmon has not yet signed his rookie contract with the Jaguars and the team is expected to push for language clearing the team of financial obligation if Blackmon runs afoul of the law. He was also cited for DUI in 2010 after attending a Dallas Cowboys game. By pleading guilty to the charges stemming from his June 3 arrest, Blackmon agreed to a one-year deferred sentence that will be waived if he fulfills all terms of the agreement. In addition to 50 hours community service and a fine of less than $1,000, Blackmon must enter the NFL's substance-abuse program. --Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant and his mother, Angela, appeared at a press conference Tuesday but neither party was able to clarify the incident that led to Bryant facing charges and his mother telling a 911 dispatcher that her son was "trying to kill me." Dez Bryant's legal representative, Royce White, advised Dez Bryant not to talk, but he read a written statement and said the family believes the matter can be "worked out through counseling." Police arrested Bryant, 23, on a misdemeanor family violence charge on July 16, two days after he allegedly assaulted his mother. On Monday, the district attorney's office received an affidavit of non-prosecution that was signed by Angela Bryant and White reiterated that was her position at Tuesday's press conference. --The Patriots assigned six veterans to the active/physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp Monday at Gillette Stadium. Projected offensive line starters Logan Mankins (knee) and Sebastian Vollmer (back) were expectedly listed on active/PUP and can be removed at any team after first passing a team physical. Inside linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee), tight end Jake Ballard (knee), defensive tackle Myron Pryor (shoulder) and tight end Daniel Fells (undisclosed) are also listed on the PUP list. --The Eagles continue to shop for veteran tight end help but might delay a meeting with former Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey initially scheduled for Wednesday. Shockey turns 32 in August and for the first time in 10 NFL seasons caught fewer than 40 passes last season in Carolina, where he split time with Greg Olsen. The Eagles hosted Visanthe Shiancoe, 32, Tuesday morning and he went through a complete workout for coaches and scouts. --The Baltimore Ravens met with former Browns offensive lineman Eric Steinbach on Tuesday. Baltimore is one of four or five teams gauging Steinbach's health and readiness to compete. He missed the entire 2011 season because of a back injury but had been a mainstay at left guard for the Browns since he was drafted 33rd overall out of Iowa in 2003. --Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey has not contacted All-Pro running back Maurice Jones-Drew, the NFL's leading rusher in 2011 who wants the team to address his contract. Jones-Drew asked the Jaguars to address his contract before the start of offseason workouts. Mularkey and general manager Gene Smith have taken -- and held -- the position that Jones-Drew should honor his current deal while the two sides work toward a more agreeable solution. The Jaguars can fine Jones-Drew $30,000 per day if he's not at training camp when it begins Thursday. --The Arizona Cardinals and strong safety Adrian Wilson agreed to a four-year deal through the 2015 season. Wilson has played his entire 11-year career with the Cardinals and played all 16 games last season despite tearing his biceps tendon in August. He had one of his best all-around seasons in 2011 and at age 32 is the leader of Arizona's defense alongside free safety Kerry Rhodes. --The Lions signed offensive tackle Jonathan Scott and released Johnny Culbreath. Scott was released by the Steelers last week and enters his second stint with the Lions. He started 14 games in two seasons in Pittsburgh. Culbreath was a seventh-round pick in 2011 and spent his rookie season on injured reserve with an undisclosed illness --The Broncos will go to training camp with all of their draft picks under contract after quarterback Brock Osweiler and running back Ronnie Hillman agreed to terms Tuesday. Osweiler was the Broncos' second-round pick, and Hillman was its third-round pick. --The Browns locked up another first-round pick, agreeing to terms with quarterback Brandon Weeden hours after signing third overall pick to Trent Richardson. Weeden, the 22nd pick in the 2012 draft, received an $8.1 million contract with three years fully guaranteed and a partial guarantee with approximately $1 million in 2015. Weeden, 28, is competing with Colt McCoy for the Browns' starting quarterback job in training camp. Richardson signed a four-year, $20.88 million contract and enters training camp as the Browns' top running back. ---The Atlanta Falcons' defense took a significant blow on Tuesday when head coach Mike Smith announced that linebacker Lofa Tatupu will miss the entire season with a torn pectoral muscle that will require surgery. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Tatupu was out of football last season after being released by the Seahawks. But the 29-year-old Tatupu signed to a two-year, $3.6 million contract with Atlanta in March and was expected to compete with second-year linebacker Akeem Dent for the starting middle linebacker spo. The Falcons did not know whether he plans to retire, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. -- New Orleans Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt mentioned on Tuesday that he will testify on behalf of suspended linebacker Jonathan Vilma in between practices this Thursday.
