Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams was hospitalized Saturday morning after being stabbed during an apparent robbery attempt at Pittsburgh's South Side, the team announced.

No other details of the incident were released.

"I had an angel looking out for me!" Adams wrote on Twitter. "(I'll) be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever."

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement: "We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning. We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery."

Adams, who was drafted in the second round last year, started six of 10 games he played as a rookie. He received the Joe Greene Performance Award, which is given to the most outstanding Steelers rookie.

---Former NFL coach Eric Mangini was hired by the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive consultant, ESPN reported.

Mangini, who was a head coach for the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, most recently worked as an analyst for ESPN.

Mangini, who has a background as a defensive coach as a New England Patriots assistant under head coach Bill Belichick, will help the 49ers offense find weaknesses in opposing defenses.

---Former New York Giants Pro Bowl lineman and one-time head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins, Bill Austin, died May 22 at his Las Vegas home. The Giants announced his death.

Austin, 84, who earned Pro Bowl honors in 1954, played on the 1956 NFL champion Giants' team, helping to pave the way for running back Frank Gifford.

He went on to coach the offensive line for the Green Bay Packers under Vince Lombardi, the New York Times reported. During his six seasons with Green Bay, the Packers won two NFL championships.
