NFL roundup: Revis trade talks on hold

The SportsXchange

The New York Jets' trade talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers involving cornerback Darrelle Revis have been put on hold, ESPN reported Monday.

The Jets began voluntary workouts and examined Revis, who is rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He was examined by Dr. Russell Warren, who performed Revis' surgery last fall.

New Jets general manager John Itzik also wanted to meet with the star cornerback for the first time.

The Jets will evaluate Revis first before deciding the next course of action, according to ESPN.

Also, backup quarterback Tim Tebow arrived at the team's facility about 90 minutes early for Monday's scheduled 8 a.m. team meeting. He has also been mentioned in trade talks.

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes was a no-show. He is still recovering from foot surgery. He is not expected to join the team until later in the spring for workouts.

---The New Orleans Saints signed veteran free agent quarterback Seneca Wallace to a one-year contract.

Wallace, who was out of football last year, worked out for the Oakland Raiders last week. He went 1-6 as a starter for the Cleveland Browns over two years but the team cut him during training camp last year.

---The San Francisco 49ers announced cornerback Tramaine Brock signed the one-year contract he had previously been tendered. The tender was at $1.323 million with no compensation.

--- Exclusive rights free agent cornerback Josh Gordy signed his tender with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced.

Gordy was traded from the St. Louis Rams to the Colts last August for an undisclosed draft pick in 2014.

---The Cincinnati Bengals announced they re-signed wide receiver Andrew Hawkins and safety Jeromy Miles to contracts.

Hawkins was tendered as an exclusive-rights player while Miles was tendered as a restricted free agent.

---The Philadelphia Eagles released quarterback Trent Edwards, but it still leaves a logjam of four players at the position. Since coach Chip Kelly was hired, the team has re-signed Michael Vick and added quarterbacks G.J. Kinne and Dennis Dixon. Second-year pro Nick Foles is also still on the roster.

---NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Monday added four coaches to the subcommittee of NFL Competition Committee, which is chaired by Hall of Fame Coach John Madden and makes suggestions to the committee before each annual NFL Owners Meeting.

The four new coaches are Leslie Frazier (Minnesota Vikings), Joe Philbin (Miami Dolphins), Ron Rivera (Carolina Panthers) and Mike Smith (Atlanta Falcons).

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who served on the subcommittee since 2009, was recently named to the Competition Committee.
