Wide receiver Jacoby Ford
and cornerback Ron Bartell
were placed on injured reserve by the Oakland Raiders, who promoted cornerback Coye Francies and long-snapper Nick Guess from the practice squad.
Ford underwent foot surgery on Tuesday, while Bartell suffered a fractured shoulder blade in the Week 1 loss to San Diego. Bartell was designated to return, which means he can practice Oct. 27 and could return to the team as early as the Nov. 11 game at Baltimore.
Francies was claimed off waivers from Seattle in August, released Sept. 6 and added to the practice squad Wednesday.
Guess, an undrafted rookie out of Tennessee, was also added to the practice squad this week. Pro Bowl long snapper Jon Condo (concussion) was injured against the Chargers, forcing linebacker Travis Goethel to handle the duties for the remainder of the game.
---The Chicago Bears re-signed running back Kahlil Bell
with starter Matt Forte out with a high ankle sprain.
Bell announced he was back with the team through Twitter, and the Bears confirmed the move Saturday.
"I'm taking my talents back to Chicago. So happy to be back. Never wanted to leave," Bell wrote.
The Bears also tried out former Miami Dolphin and Houston Texan Steve Slaton on Saturday.
Bell, a former undrafted rookie, was cut by Chicago in August after he refused to take a $560,000 pay cut. In 20 games including three starts over three seasons (2009-11) with Chicago, Bell had 557 rushing yards on 119 attempts. He added 137 receiving yards and one touchdown on 20 receptions.
---New York Jets running back Joe McKnight
might line up as a cornerback for a few plays Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday with Darrelle Revis out with a concussion.
Jets coach Rex Ryan had McKnight take cornerback snaps at practice this week, according to the New York Daily News. McKnight would be used only in an emergency situation. Revis' absence leaves just four healthy cornerbacks on the roster.
McKnight played cornerback and safety in high school before switching to running back at USC under then-coach Pete Carroll.
McKnight played just three offensive snaps in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
---Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jason Babin was fined $15,750 for roughing Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden in last Sunday's season opener, according to Philly.com.
Babin was fined for "unnecessarily" driving Weeden into the ground, even though no penalty was called on the play.
He received a fine on a similar play last year for roughing the passer.
Babin has been outspoken about how the league fines players.
"I don't think they like the way I play at all," Babin said after last October's incident. "I'm pretty sure they get nervous every time because they know I'm throwing and someone gets hurt. But that's what got me paid, that's what got me where I am today. I'm not going to change."
---The San Diego Chargers signed cornerback Greg Gatson from the practice squad with cornerback Quentin Jammer nursing a broken hand, the team announced Saturday.
Jammer is listed as probable on the team's injury report for Sunday's game against the visiting Tennessee Titans.
To make room for Gatson, San Diego cut offensive lineman Reggie Wells.
Gatson, an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas, had 15 tackles on defense and one on special teams during the preseason.
