NFL roundup: Miami puts Martin on NFI reserve

The Miami Dolphins placed offensive tackle Jonathan Martin on the non-football illness list, meaning he is not eligible to return this season.

Martin has been away from the team since Oct. 28 after claiming harassment and bullying from several teammates, including offensive guard Richie Incognito.

The Dolphins signed safety D.J. Campbell from the practice squad to take Martin's spot on the 53-man roster.

Miami can pay as little as none or all of his remaining $607,466 base salary for this season. The 24-year-old is in the second of a four-year contract he signed his rookie season.

The Dolphins reportedly have agreed to keep Incognito on the roster while the NFL concludes its investigation.

Incognito's four-game suspension was to end Monday under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, but it was extended with pay and could last up to six weeks in a deal reached with the Dolphins.

He will not be paid for two weeks of the suspension. Reports indicated that it cost him $470,588.

Attorney Ted Wells, who is conducting the investigation, said earlier that he would need a few more weeks to complete his work.

---San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree will play Sunday when then they take on the visiting St. Louis Rams.

Crabtree was activated from the physically unable to perform list Tuesday. He had surgery in May to repair a torn Achilles tendon suffered during a spring practice.

When asked whether Crabtree will play Sunday, coach Jim Harbaugh said, "Looks that way." However, he is not expected to have a full workload.

Crabtree was placed on the PUP list Aug. 27 and returned to practice Nov. 5.

The 49ers listed the following players as questionable for Sunday: linebacker Ahmad Brooks (stinger), cornerback Tarell Brown (ribs), tight end Garret Celek (hamstring), guard Mike Iupati (knee), defensive tackle Ray McDonald (ankle), receiver Quinton Patton (foot) and linebacker Aldon Smith (shoulder).

---Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin is doubtful for Monday night's game against the New Orleans Saints due to a sore hip.

Harvin missed the first 10 games of the season after having hip surgery in the summer. He made his Seahawks debut Nov. 17 against the Minnesota Vikings, catching one pass for 17 yards and returning a kickoff 58 yards against his former team.

Even though the Seahawks had an extra week off for their bye, Harvin apparently was unable to recover. Coach Pete Carroll said Saturday that Harvin most likely will miss Monday's game because of lingering soreness.

"If anything at all is not right we're not going with him," Carroll said. "We're going to make sure he's 100 percent before we go."

---The Denver Broncos ruled out defensive end Derek Wolfe from playing Sunday's game at the Kansas City Chiefs after he apparently suffered a seizure on Friday.

Wolfe became ill on the team bus headed to Denver International Airport and was sent to a hospital.

"Derek Wolfe is alert and recovering in a Denver hospital after experiencing seizure-like symptoms on Friday," the team said in a statement Saturday. "He underwent extensive testing and is now being treated accordingly by doctors, who will continue to monitor his condition."

The Broncos initially listed him a questionable Friday before downgrading him to out.

Wolfe has been playing about 10 pounds lighter than usual this year, according to the Denver Post. He has had trouble putting on weight since getting food poisoning during preseason. He was also carted off the field with a neck injury during a preseason game but tests were negative.

---New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Aaron Dobson has a foot sprain, MassLive.com reported Saturday.

The Patriots previously ruled Dobson out of Sunday's game at the Houston Texans because of a foot injury, but they were not specific about the nature or extent of the injury.

Dobson was injured last Sunday against the Denver Broncos and did not practice this week.

In 10 games, Dobson has 35 catches for 492 yards with four touchdowns.

Rookie Kenbrell Thompkins will likely fill in for Dobson. Thompkins has 31 catches for 450 yards with four touchdowns. He replaced Dobson in the second half against Denver when he got hurt.

Also, starting right tackle Marcus Cannon (ankle) and reserve tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (knee) are out. Starting cornerbacks Aqib Talib (hip) and Alfonzo Dennard (knee), and starting safety Steve Gregory (thumb) are among the Patriots listed as questionable.

---Pittsburgh Steelers center Fernando Velasco is out for the season with an Achilles tendon tear, according to CBS Sports.

Velasco was filling in for All-Pro Maurkice Pouncey, who is on injured reserve.

Velasco was injured Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. He was one of several Steelers injured in the 22-20 loss.

Running back Le'Veon Bell sustained a concussion but it is too early to determine his status for the Dec. 8 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Already thin on offensive line, the Steelers will look for reinforcement with Velasco out. Left tackle Kelvin Beachum and reserve tackle Mike Adams were also injured in the game.

---The Kansas City Chiefs put rookie defensive back Sanders Commings on injured reserve Saturday and promoted rookie linebacker Josh Martin from the practice squad.

Commings, a fifth-round pick out of Georgia, missed the first nine games with a broken collarbone, and coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Commings recently had developed inflammation in the shoulder.

Commings did not practice all week and had been ruled out of the Chiefs' game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Martin, an undrafted rookie out of Columbia, was on the Chiefs' roster for the first three games of the season before being demoted to the practice squad.
