NFL roundup: Hundreds of mourners honor 'class clown' Lloyd
Hundreds of friends joined relatives of Odin Lloyd on Saturday to remember the "class clown" and semi-pro football player who allegedly was killed by former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.
The Church of the Holy Spirit in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood couldn't hold all mourners, which included members of the Boston Bandits, who wore their jerseys and chanted Lloyd's name as his casket was placed inside the hearse, according to Yahoo!.
"Odin! Odin! Odin!" they chanted. As the hearse pulled away, teammates of the 27-year-old Lloyd walked away, tears streaming down their faces.
Lloyd's sister told the crowd, which was estimated at more than 500, about how her brother took pride in having "stinky feet" and owning worn out flip-flops.
He also did not have a car, Olivia Lloyd said. Odin would bike 20 miles to work and was devoted to his old-school Blackberry.
The reverend urged mourners not to "harbor resentment." Lloyd's teammates said they were hoping for closure.
One of his Bandit teammates, Wendell Delk said, "Players are not angry. We have no animosity. We just want closure."
Lloyd's bullet-riddled body was found on June 17 in an industrial park near Hernandez's home.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed along with two other men. The three have been arrested and face charges relating to Lloyd's execution-style death.
The Boston Globe has reported that police believe Hernandez might have killed Lloyd because he had information tying Hernandez to an unsolved double slaying that occurred in July 2012.
---Indianapolis Colts safety Joe Lefeged was arrested in Washington, D.C., on several gun-related charges, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Lefeged, 25, was arrested along with another man in his vehicle. After refusing to pull over, the vehicle was chased by police. Once the chase ended, the two were arrested and a handgun was found in the vehicle Lefeged was driving, according to police.
Lefeged and Timothy Wilson, 23, were scheduled for arraignment Saturday on carrying a firearm without license, unregistered firearm, unregistered ammunition and presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle charges.
---A pit bull and seven puppies that belong to Philadelphia Eagles running back Bryce Brown are being returned to Brown after they were seized in May because of an alleged illegal dog-breeding operation in Fall Creek, Wis.
Brown is not connected to the alleged operation. He purchased the pit bull in 2010 and sent her to Northland Pits for stud services in February. Brown later sent the pit bull back to Sudbrick to have her whelped and the puppies weaned. The dogs were seized along with 19 others when a search warrant was executed on May 21.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Brown and his wife also often seen walking their two dogs in their Philadelphia neighborhood.
