NFL Roundup: Cowboys' Witten says Romo 'looks good' while passing

The SportsXchange

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten gave a first-hand update on Tony Romo and assured fans that the quarterback's passing ability hasn't been altered by his back surgery.

"He is throwing good," Witten told the Dallas Morning News. "I have caught a lot of balls over the years and it's the same zip, same as always. He looks good."

Romo had surgery to relieve the pressure of a herniated disk on Dec. 27, two days before the Cowboys' regular season ended with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.

Along with his teammates, Romo has been participating in offseason workouts since they began earlier this month. According to the rules during this period of sanctioned activities, Romo is only permitted to throw to receivers who are not being covered by other players.

Romo has undergone two back procedures in the past year. Romo also had a cyst removed from his back last spring, but that issue was unrelated.

---Tight end Dustin Keller visited the New England Patriots and agreed to a physical.

If he signs with the team, Keller would be with his third team in as many seasons, all in the AFC East.

Drafted by the New York Jets, Keller spent five seasons with the Jets without a dependable starting quarterback and averaged almost 50 receptions per season.

Keller signed with the Miami Dolphins last offseason as an unrestricted free agent but was lost for the season with a torn ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee in the preseason.

He could be viewed as a solid No. 2 option behind Rob Gronkowski, who is still rehabbing from his own ACL injury.

Gronkowski, who also spent last offseason rehabbing from multiple surgeries (arm, back), said this week he is unsure when he will return to the field and declined to predict his status for Week 1 in September.
