NFL roundup: Broncos increase offer to Clady

The Denver Broncos offered to add $2.5 million to the five-year, $50 million contract they proposed to left tackle Ryan Clady last year, according to ESPN.

The new offer would add $500,000 annually to Clady, who is unsigned.

Clady has a $9.828 franchise tag on him for this season. The deadline to sign franchise players to long-term deals is Monday.

The Broncos offer includes guaranteeing more than half of the contract's value.

Clady, 26, battled a right shoulder injury last year, but he only allowed one sack and had offseason surgery.

---Former Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Ausar Walcott claims he acted in self-defense when he punched a man outside a New Jersey bar in June that severely injured him, the Bergen County (N.J.) Record reported.

Walcott, 23, turned himself in but was cut by the Browns a day after he was charged with attempted murder for allegedly critically injuring the 24-year-old man outside the Palace Gentleman's Club in Passaic on June 23.

Walcott's attorney, Miles Feinstein, wrote in a certification to support a motion to reduce Walcott's $500,000 bail he and his friends were surrounded by 10 to 20 men who made threatening comments to them.

The alleged victim, Derrick Jones, has since been released from Harlem Hospital Center in New York. He was in critical condition with a serious head injury.

---Second-year Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard has a July 31 court day to determine whether his latest arrest is grounds for revoking his probation.

Dennard was placed on two years' probation for an assault conviction in February, according to the Omaha World-Herald. On Thursday morning, Dennard was arrested in Lincoln, Neb., and charged with DUI, refusal of a chemical test and straddling lane lines.

It is possible that the judge will rule that Dennard violated his probation and could order the 22-year-old to jail.

Earlier this week, Dennard claimed he did not fail a field sobriety test and was not asked to take a blood test after being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to NFL.com.
