NFL, refs meet but still can't reach deal

The SportsXchange

The NFL and the locked-out referees met in New York for a second straight day Saturday, but were still unable to agree on a new collective bargaining agreement.

"We met with the NFL this morning and discussed various potential solutions to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. Unfortunately we were unable to reach any agreement," NFLRA lead negotiator Mike Arnold said in a statement. "We are disappointed because it means that our members will not be back on the field for Week 1 of the regular season due to the NFL's continuing lockout."

Arnold said no additional meetings are scheduled. The NFL informed teams that replacement refs will be used for Wednesday's regular-season opener between the Giants and Cowboys, and are expected to be used for the full Week 1 slate of games at this point.
