With the regular season starting this week, we take a look at the initial power rankings for the Colts - who open the season in the top ten.
The NFL season is among us! The first regular season game is Thursday night and with the beginning of the regular season comes the weekly NFL power rankings! Let's take a look at where the Colts rank in the power rankings...
In the inaugural SB Nation power rankings (voted on by the NFL bloggers), the Colts are ranked eighth.
8. Indianapolis Colts: finally informed the Colts coaching staff that Andrew Luck is a very good quarterback, and they plan to throw the ball a lot more in 2014. They'll need to lean on Luck and an impressive cast of receivers this year, because the roster still has some big holes.
CBS Sports' Pat Kirwan has the Colts ranked ninth:
9. Indianapolis Colts: With Reggie Wayne back on offense and D'Qwell Jackson leading the defense I may have the Colts a bit too low. Last year this team beat Seattle, San Francisco, Denver and Kansas City and averaged 30 points a game doing it.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller has the Colts eighth as well:
8. Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts can be as strong as any team in the NFL and are a shoo-in to win the AFC South this year, but how far can they really go in the AFC playoffs?
This is a top-10 team, and you can thank Andrew Luck for that, but until the offensive line and defense prove themselves in the regular season, the Colts look more like a high-win regular-season club destined to exit the playoffs early. Now, if the running game gets going and the defense comes alive with a better pass rush, watch out.
The Colts get a big test early and a chance to move way up in the rankings if they can pull off the upset.
Shutdown Corner's (Yahoo) Frank Schwab has the Colts at eighth in his updated, post-presesaon rankings:
8. Indianapolis Colts (LW: 8) Trent Richardson this preseason: 15 carries, 2.5-yard average. Uh oh.
I think the Colts are ranked just about right in these power rankings, and it's the same place where I place them as well. What are your thoughts on the initial power rankings?
