The NFL will stop using pink penalty flags after Monday night's game between the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons.
The pink flags were part of the league's breast cancer awareness campaign. Other elements of the campaign include pink equipment, coins and goal-post padding, and will remain.
Along with players wearing pink accessories, including gloves and towels, the flags caused confusion among broadcasters, fans, players and coaches during Sunday's games.
League spokesman Michael Signora said Monday that "the experience this weekend solidified that it would be for one week only."
Pink penalty flags were used for just one game last year.
The regular yellow flags will return with Thursday night's New York Giants-Chicago Bears matchup.
