The NFLPA and NFL agreed to extend the trade deadline and an exception that would allow one player on injured reserve to return during the season.

The NFL’s competition committee approved the changes in May. The trade deadline will move from the Tuesday following Week Six to the Tuesday following Week Eight of the regular season, which is Oct. 30.

Teams are also allowed to bring one player back to the active roster from injured reserve during the regular season. Players with a "major injury" placed on I.R. after 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 4 are eligible for reactivation. A "major injury" is defined as an injury that would kleep a player out for at least six weeks from the date of the injury.

For this year only, teams can bring a player to the active roster who was placed on I.R. since the start of preseason training camp. That player must be selected no later than 9 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 31.

According to multiple reports, starting next year, players who sign with a team after training camp starts can practice the first day after a passed physical instead of waiting until Day Three.

One of the holdups in approving the rule changes apparently had to do with padded practice changes. NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported that the league dropped its request for added padded practices.
