NFL-National Football League roundup

Sept 19 (The Sports Xchange) - On his first day with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, running back Trent Richardson reported to work, still waiting for the shock to subside. "I can't believe it," Richardson said of being traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Colts Wednesday for a first-round draft pick. "I didn't see it coming from anywhere. I had a good relationship with everybody. But I guess it's the best move for the Browns. At the end of the day it's the best move for both of us, I guess." - - Free agent running back Willis McGahee passed his physical Thursday and signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN. The Browns picked up McGahee a day after trading second-year running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2014 first-round draft pick. McGahee plans to play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, according to NFL.com. - - Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden could return by next week after spraining his right thumb in the season opener, ESPN reported Thursday. Weeden's injury will not require surgery, which speeds up the time he will be able to return to the field. The Browns will start Brian Hoyer at quarterback this Sunday at the Minnesota Vikings over Jason Campbell. - - Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson said he has never been a dirty player, but he intends to make sure all his hits are clean and within the rules from now on. That message may have been head-slapped into Goldson's brain after his one-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles was reduced to a $100,000 fine. - - Wide receiver Malcom Floyd sat out practice Wednesday and said he won't play Sunday when the San Diego Chargers face the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. Floyd described what happened when he hurt his neck against the Philadelphia Eagles, taking a direct hit from linebacker DeMeco Ryans, and it's chilling to hear. "As soon as I got hit, all of my limbs just went limp and there was this subdued shock throughout my whole body," Floyd said. "Once I came to, my neck was pretty sore." - - Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice Thursday but said he is optimistic about playing Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Bush injured his left knee with 5:59 left in the second quarter last Sunday after he was hit by the helmet of Arizona Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson. - - Veteran offensive tackle Max Starks agreed to a contract with the St. Louis Rams. Starks, 31, was released by the San Diego Chargers in August. He spent the previous nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing 123 games, mostly at right tackle. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
