NFL-National Football League roundup

Aug 4 (The Sports Xchange) - The NFL Players Association released the transcript of Tom Brady's testimony in his June arbitration hearing regarding his alleged role in the deflated footballs controversy. The players union released the 457-page transcript of the 10-hour hearing in a filing Tuesday in New York federal court. Brady was suspended for four games by the NFL for his role in tampering with footballs which were under-inflated in the AFC Championship Game. In the transcript, Brady denies tampering with footballs in that game and denies telling anyone else to do so. Despite Brady's claims, the four-game suspension was upheld by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFLPA then appealed that ruling to federal court. Federal judge Richard Berman has ordered Brady and Goodell to appear before him next week after urging them to settle. He ordered the NFL and the NFLPA not to submit materials -- including the transcript of the Brady hearing -- under seal. -- Houston Texans running back Arian Foster suffered a serious groin injury in Monday's training camp practice and will require surgery. Foster should be ready to return sometime during the regular season, the Houston Chronicle reported. -- Quarterback Sam Bradford and the Philadelphia Eagles are discussing a short-term contract extension, ESPN reported. Bradford, 27, was acquired with a draft pick from the St. Louis Rams for Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round draft pick. -- Former UCLA and Detroit Lions running back Mel Farr died on Monday, the family confirmed. Farr was 70. Farr played seven NFL season with the Lions (1967-73) and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1967. -- Terrelle Pryor, who is trying to transition to wide receiver with the Cleveland Browns after being a quarterback, came up lame with a hamstring strain during practice. The extent of the injury was not immediately known. Coach Mike Pettine said he didn't get the sense the injury was serious. However, Pryor said he was scheduled for an MRI to determine his recovery time. -- Suspended wide receiver Justin Blackmon is unlikely to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In an interview at the Scouting Combine in February, general manager Dave Caldwell expressed guarded optimism about Blackmon, a first-round pick in 2012, returning this season. -- The father of Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon after a shooting at a bar in Rock Hill, S.C. David Morgan was arrested and in jail awaiting a bond hearing on Wednesday, Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said. -- The Cincinnati Bengals cleared defensive end Margus Hunt to practice after passing a physical. Hunt, 28, began training camp on the physically unable to perform list after reinjuring his back while lifting weights during the offseason. He missed the first four days of camp. -- The San Diego Chargers signed cornerback Jordan Mabin, the team announced. To make room on the roster for Mabin, the Chargers released wide receiver Demetrius Wilson, an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
