NFL-National Football League roundup

Oct 4 (The Sports Xchange) - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was inactive for Sunday's game with the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a sore right shoulder suffered in last week's victory at Tennessee. Veteran Matt Hasselbeck started in place of Luck, who was the starter for the first 57 games of his NFL career, including playoff appearances. Hasselbeck led the Colts on a 53-yard drive in overtime Sunday and Adam Vinatieri then kicked a 27-yard field goal for a 16-13 victory over Jacksonville. Hasselbeck completed 30 of 47 passes for 282 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. The 40-year-old Hasselbeck got his first career start in a Colts uniform and his first since 2012 with the Titans. - - - Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who missed last week's game with a hamstring injury, started against the Oakland Raiders. Cutler drove the Bears 48 yards in the last two minutes and Robbie Gould kicked his third field goal of the game, a 49-yarder with two seconds remaining, as the Bears beat the Raiders 22-20 for their first victory of the season. Three normal starters for the Bears -- wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, left tackle Jermon Bushrod and nose tackle Jeremiah Ratliff -- were inactive due to injuries. Cutler did not play last week, giving way to Jimmy Clausen in a shutout loss at Seattle. Cutler was limited in practice the entire week, splitting practice reps with Clausen. - - - Houston Texans running back Arian Foster was active and made his season debut against the Atlanta Falcons. Foster had not played since tearing his groin in early August. He had eight carries for 10 yards and caught three passes for 25 yards. - - - Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray, recovering from a hamstring injury, was active against the Washington Redskins. Murray missed last Sunday's game against the New York Jets due to the ailment. On Sunday, Murray gained 36 yards on eight carries. - - - The Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were without key players due to injuries. Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly missed a third straight game as he recovers from a concussion and five injured players are among Tampa Bay's inactives. The Bucs were without starting cornerback Johnthan Banks (knee), as well as center Evan Smith (ankle) and their top two tight ends in Austin Seferian-Jenkins (shoulder) and Luke Stocker (hip). Receiver Russell Shepard (hamstring), the team's leading special-teams tackler last season, also was out. - - - (Editing by Mark Lamport-Stokes)
