June 6 (The Sports Xchange) - Cornerback Aqib Talib of the Denver Broncos was released from the hospital Monday after being shot in the lower right leg Sunday morning in Dallas. Talib said he was at a park and intoxicated when the shooting occurred, local ABC-affiliate WFAA reported on Monday, despite earlier reports stating the incident took place during a fight at a strip club. "Everything was a blur and I was too intoxicated to remember what happened," Talib told police, according to WFAA's Rebecca Lopez. - - The Broncos visited the White House, sans Talib, to celebrate their victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 with President Barack Obama. Obama praised the Broncos' defense, calling it "one of the greatest defenses of all time," as well as quarterback Peyton Manning, who has since retired. In addition to Manning, among others, Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas attended the celebration. Obama previously commuted the prison sentence of Thomas' mother Katina Smith, imprisoned in 1999 on drug trafficking charges. - - San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will not be cleared for the team's minicamp that begins Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported. Kaepernick underwent shoulder, thumb, and knee surgeries dating back to last November, and newly hired offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said last week he didn't know when the sixth-year quarterback would return. The team hopes Kaepernick will be ready when training camp starts in July. - - The Minnesota Vikings signed safety Harrison Smith to a five-year contract extension. According to multiple reports, the 2015 Pro Bowler will earn $51.25 million over the next five years with a $10 million signing bonus and $28.578 million guaranteed. The new deal makes Smith the NFL's highest-paid safety at $10.25 million per season. The 27-year-old Smith, the Vikings' 2012 first-round pick out of Notre Dame, finished with 66 tackles, two interceptions and 1.5 sacks last season. - - The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent offensive tackle Mitchell Van Dyk and waived-injured guard Isiah Cage. If Cage clears waivers, he will revert to the Colts' injured reserve list. The 6-foot-7, 299-pound Van Dyk was signed by the Colts as a free agent on April 20 and waived on May 2. He spent the entire 2015 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers' injured reserve list after being waived-injured by the team on Sept. 5, 2015. - - After months of speculation about whether he may try to play one more season, running back Marshawn Lynch confirmed he plans to retire from the NFL. Lynch was placed on the reserve/retired list by the Seattle Seahawks last month, but has yet to file his retirement papers with the league, fueling speculation he may return for a final season - perhaps with his hometown Oakland Raiders.
