NFL-National Football League roundup

June 10 (The Sports Xchange) - Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Ty Powell is retiring from the NFL at age 28, multiple media outlets reported. Powell, a seventh-round pick (No. 231 overall) by the Seattle Seahawks in 2013, was placed on the reserved/retired list by the Eagles on Thursday. He was signed with Philadelphia on May 17. Before joining the Eagles, Powell spent two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He had 17 tackles (six assists) and a sack in 19 games. He missed the entire 2015 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. - - - The New England Patriots released Michael Williams, two days after the tight end suffered a torn ACL in minicamp practice. Williams was slated to be the team's third tight end behind Rob Gronkowski and offseason acquisition Martellus Bennett. - - - Hall of Fame quarterback and Buffalo Bills great Jim Kelly added some pressure on Rex Ryan, predicting the team must make the playoffs this season or the second-year head coach could be out of a job. "I think we need to do it (make the playoffs)," Kelly said on the Jim Rome radio show. "I think we have to do it. If we don't, I think Rex will probably be looking for another job. I think everybody knows that, including Rex. We have the nucleus to get it done." Ryan went 8-8 in his first season with the Bills, who haven't reached the playoffs since 1999. - - - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed third-round defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a four-year rookie deal. The Steelers have now signed each of their seven picks from the 2016 NFL Draft. (Editing by Andrew Both)
