NFL legend Jim Brown cancels speech to AFC Rookies, cites fatigue

Citing fatigue, Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown has canceled a speech on Wednesday for AFC rookies at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

"I am very sorry that I am unable to attend tomorrow's Hall of Fame session with the rookie class," Brown said in a statement released through the league. "Our young NFL players are very dear to me, but due to my extensive travels of late, I am extremely tired and need to rest."

Brown, who starred as a player with the NFL's Browns in nearby Cleveland, canceled the speech on Tuesday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The NFL first sent out a statement that Brown was ill, prompting the cancelation. But Brown's wife Monique later told the newspaper that her husband recently completed a 10-day trip and needed to unwind from it.

"It's nothing serious," she said. "Jim is fine and really looking forward to attending the [50th anniversary] reunion at the Hall of Fame during enshrinement weekend."

The subject of Brown's speech was to be on NFL history. Brown will be replaced by fellow Hall of Famer Mike Haynes.

NFC rookies will visit the Hall on Saturday and will be given a speech by Chicago Bears defensive end Richard Dent.
