What’s Next For These ‘Girl Meets World’ Stars?
“Girl Meets World” is over, but the young stars still have promising careers ahead of them. Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter launched to stardom on the Disney Channel sitcom, but they have already started venturing outside the world of comedy. They have plenty lined up for their post-“GMW” careers.
Blanchard, who played Riley Matthews, already has one movie filmed. “A World Away” is in post-production, but the IMDb page states that it will come out this year. Blanchard plays Jessica, who goes on a trip to the Grand Canyon with friends but ends up at an unexpected destination. The drama is a family affair. The actress’ father Mark Blanchard is directing and her siblings Shane and Camren co-star.
The actress isn’t just sticking to smaller projects, though. She’ll continue to work with Disney on the big screen when she stars in “A Wrinkle in Time.” Ava DuVernay is directing the highly anticipated adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s fantasy novel. The story follows siblings who travel through space to find their lost father. Rowan’s role hasn’t been specified, and the movie hasn’t started filming yet. “A Wrinkle in Time” is due out on April 6, 2018.
At 15, Blanchard has many other interests outside of acting. She’s also an activist. She spoke Saturday at the Women’s March in Los Angeles. Watch her speech below:
Blanchard is taking more acting gigs, but Carpenter, who played Maya Hart, might be going in a different direction. It looks like she’ll be focusing on music. Like Blanchard, she is still connected to Disney. She is signed to Hollywood Records, which is owned by the mouse house.
The 17-year-old’s second studio album, “Evolution,” came out last year. She already toured the U.S. in support of it, but she’ll head overseas to promote the LP next. The “Thumbs” singer will be touring in the U.K. and Ireland as a special guest on The Vamps’ tour. She’ll celebrate her 18th birthday while abroad. Get tour details HERE.
Of course, there is a possibility that “Girl Meets World” isn’t over yet. The sitcom is being shopped to other networks in the hopes that someone will green light a Season 4. While fans are petitioning Netflix to pick it up, there are also rumors it could go to another Disney-owned channel like Freeform. However, nothing has been made official.
“There are talks underway, but we’re at the very very beginning stages,” creator Michael Jacobs revealed to TVLine. “And I can tell you it’s because of the audience’s reaction to the cancellation that there is interest in other places.”
“Girl Meets World” ran for three seasons and 70 episodes. The series finale aired Friday.
