Nets' Williams says ankle is OK

The SportsXchange

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams told ESPN New York that he will be ready for the start of training camp Oct. 1 despite having another MRI on his right ankle next week.

Williams is in a walking boot because of a sprain and bone bruise.

"(My ankle's) good. It's good," Williams said Thursday at his dodgeball charity event in Manhattan. "As long as I'm ready for the start of the regular season, that's all that matters, but I'll be ready for the start of camp."

The Nets open the regular season Oct. 30 at the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Williams said he was injured while working out in Utah more than two weeks ago. He told team trainer Tim Walsh about the injury and had an MRI, which revealed inflammation.

Williams said the team requested him to wear a walking boot as a precautionary measure. He had inflammation in both of ankles for much of last season.

"They're just more protecting me from myself," he said.
