Nets' King says Williams told him not to wait on Howard

In one of their summer conversations prior to free agency, Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams told general manager Billy King not to wait Dwight Howard.

In the premiere of NBA TV's "The Association: Brooklyn Nets," King says, "One thing Deron did say to me, 'Please, just don't wait on Dwight. We can't wait and not have a team.'

"The team of Brooklyn is bigger than one person. I owed it to the organization, I owed it to our fans, I owed it to Deron and the players that we have to build for Brooklyn, and we went forward and built our team."

The show is scheduled to air Oct. 16. King doggedly pursued Howard, but lost out to the Los Angeles Los Angeles Lakers. King instead spent $330 million to bring in nine new players, highlighted by the acquisition of shooting guard Joe Johnson.
